Stocking Stuffer Ideas for a 6 Year Old & a 4 Year Old

As is my usual custom, I am writing this post far too late to be helpful for anyone, but I like to journal it for myself! It’s fun to be able to look back on past years & remember, “oh yeah that was when they were into [fill in the blank]” - it serves almost as a time capsule of sorts.

Anyway, I did my stocking stuffer dress rehearsals a few days ago & honestly I'm impressed it all worked out so well. As a reminder, I buy all of these things throughout the year & stash them in random places around my house until about a week prior to Christmas when I unearth them all from their hiding places & see if they all will fit in the stocking they need to - & I’m happy to report they all fit quite well (thank goodness) :)

Also I recognize that this level of stocking stuffers is over the top, so I’ll preface this post by saying that buying stocking stuffers is one of my favorite things about Christmas (possibly more than buying gifts?). Something about buying miniature things that bring the recipient joy is just fun for me haha. I also tend to prioritize buying things that 1) will actually be used over & over, 2) won’t break 5 minutes after being opened, & 3) is not primarily candy.

So without further delay, here are my stocking stuffers this year for both my 6 year old & my almost 4 year old!

Stocking Stuffer Ideas for a 6 Year Old/almost 4 Year Old:

Starting at the bottom left, working clockwise:

  1. Lyra Super Ferby Neon 6 colored pencils set - I always like to include a few fun art supplies in our stockings & this year I went with these fun neon colored pencils from Lyra I found while perusing the Conscious Craft site. I also may or may not have bought this metallic set for my own stocking ;)

  2. Hazel Village mini turtle + turtle shell backpack - we’re big fans of all things Hazel Village in our house, so when I saw these mini turtles & turtle shell backpacks earlier this year, it was an obvious yes

  3. Poppy & Pout kid lip balm trio - I’ve been on the search for kids lip balm that is fun & a bit cleaner than the usual varieties that appeal to kids, so this was what grabbed my attention! This brand is vegan & has fun packaging, so it seems like a win-win so far

  4. Ostheimer treasure chest - this has been on my wishlist for years & I finally tracked one down at Nest & a second at Modern Rascals! Excited for these because they have a top that allows you to open it & “fill” the chest with tiny things (a perpetual favorite thing to do around here)

  5. Squishy toy ball - I always find a few random things in the Target dollar section that somehow find their way home, & this is one of them. I’m fairly certain this will bring equal joy to both my children & our cat

  6. Olive & June nail polish - our favorite brand & I love that they’re 15 free

  7. Grapat Lucky Lucky 2nd Edition set - these sets are so fun! Each edition has several different sets, but each box is a surprise as to which one you receive. They make great little gifts for birthdays, or in this case, stocking stuffers

  8. Bluey bandages - another Target dollar section find that is always a hit around here in our pretend play - a $1 box of bandages. We’re big fans of the tv show “Bluey” so this will surely be an instant hit

  9. A Fabriano EcoQua Pocketbook - for the Lyra colored pencils to color in of course. Plus my kids love doodling in mini notebooks

  10. Ostheimer figure - we’re also big Ostheimer fans - they’re such miniature works of art! Over the years, I have collected their figures from small shops all over the world & gift them at special occasions like Christmas & birthdays. The one in the photo above resembles our cat Luna :)

  11. A crocheted coin purse - another Conscious Craft find, these little purses will hopefully help give the loose change my kids find a better home than in random hiding places that they currently find themselves

  12. Citrus Grocery List Notepad - my older child has reached the stage of her pretend play of making all sorts of lists whenever the opportunity arises, this seems like a great fit for her list-making needs

  13. Guest Check Notepad - this seems like another natural extension to her pretend play mentioned above. I remember reading this suggestion on the Cup of Jo blog several years back & filed it away in my brain for when my kids were older & now here we are

  14. Lyra Super Ferby 4 Color pencil - a color pencil that writes in rainbow?! Need I say more?! I even bought one for each of my husband’s & my stockings too haha

  15. Grimm's Neonfriends Mix / Neonfriends Pink - I love this year’s release of neon Grimm’s toys, but most of them we didn’t need new versions of. However the neon friends I couldn’t ignore

  16. A mini self inking stamp - my kids love to draw & create things in my art studio on the regular, so these little stamps will be a happy addition to their art supplies cart :)

  17. Bluey & Bingo mini figurines - yes, we really love “Bluey” haha. These came as a set of the whole Heeler family, & each of us will get the member of the Bluey family we match up with (fun fact: I made our Halloween costumes this year for us to all be the Heeler family! One day hopefully I’ll share them)

  18. Color Your Own Stickers book - this serves a few purposes in that my kids love stickers, but they also love to color - what better combo could you ask for?

  19. A set of tattoos from the movie Trolls Band Together - another Target dollar section find. We recently saw this movie in the theater & my kids became obsessed with the music, so I have a feeling the Trolls tattoos will be a favorite

  20. Sarah’s silks rainbow mask - my kids love to dress up, so these are a great addition to our dress up bin that will pair well with our other dress up stuff from Sarah’s Silks, Jack Be Nimble, & Little Adventures

As a family tradition, we also add in an orange & apple to everyone’s stockings. I grew up always having those in my stocking - something that was a holdover from my grandparents & a reminder that even a simple piece of fruit can be a luxury to have.

While some of the links above are affiliate, most of them are linked to wonderful small shops like The Wooden Wagon, Fair Play Projects, Conscious Craft out of the UK, Nest & Modern Rascals both out of Canada, & thoughtful brands like Hazel Village & Poppy & Pout.

Thanks for joining me on this journey through a 6 year old & almost 4 year old’s Christmas stocking! I hope you found some of this helpful :)

For other stocking stuffer ideas, try these for: an 18-24 month old, a 2 year old, another set of ideas for a 4 year old., & a 5 year old.
